BENEFITS
Here you will find information about the benefits of each of the items that we use. We have included
just a tad so you don't get overwhelmed. If you have questions, please Contact Us and we would be glad to answer specific questions. We hope that you find this information useful in determining if natural, handmade products are for you!
First of all, our soaps contain glycerin. Glycerin is extremely moisturizing and leaves skin feeling soft and squeeky clean!
Shea Butter: Shea butter protects, heals and improves skin better than any other single oil presently known. Great for eczema, psoriasis, rashes, dry skin, burns, wounds, parasitic infections and more! Also high in Vitamins A & E for cell regeneration and anti-aging. Shea butter greatly improves the look and feel of skin. After a few days of use skin looks noticeably younger and healthier. High in
Stigmasterol, known as the "anti-stiffness factor", the stigmasterol in Shea Butter gives it the ability to relax tired muscles as well as provide relief for swelling and arthritis.
It's also great for natural UV Sun Protection. The best choice worldwide for a variety of reasons.
Cocoa Butter: One of natures wonderful butters, this one is a great moisturizer. It's also an extremely hard butter, so makes a harder soap. Included in most of our recipes as a natural hardener. Fresh, it smells like chocolate!
Mango Butter: One of natures wonderful butters, this one is a great moisturizer. It's also a fairly hard butter, so makes a harder soap (or lotion, etc.) This one is great in lip balms and bath kisses because of the hardness. It melts onto the skin on contact, however, so it spreads easily.
Mowrah Butter: Mowrah butter is known to prevent drying of the skin and development of wrinkles. Reduces degeneration of skin cells and restores skin flexibility.
Bentonite Clay: Bentonite clay is most often used in facial masks or soaps as a detoxifying agent and also oil absorber. It is excellent for use by people with acne and very oily skin.
Kaolin (White China) Clay: Kaolin Clay is most often used in facial masks, body powders, soaps and more. Very gentle and perfect for sensitive and dry skin types.
Rhassoul Clay Powder: Rhassoul or Ghassoul as it is also known (morrocan lava clay) is best used as a hair rinse. It adds volume, thickness and shine and is excellent for use with oily hair. It is also a great additive in soaps due to the high mineral content. Also excellent in a facial mask as it is not as drying to the skin as other clays leaving your skin soft and smooth.
Herbs and Botanicals:
We use fresh herbs, vegetables and spices as additives in our soaps. Most of you will be familiar with Lavender and Chamomile - but we also use odds and ends like Cucumber, Cinnamon, Cranberry, Basil, Sand, Coffee, Coconut, Eucalyptus, Walnut Shell Powder and Pumice Powder. Most of the above are astringents, exfoliants or are soothing to the skin. Paired with Shea Oil (or even without) they are great for your skin. As long as it's skin-safe, you might find a soap on our pages with just about anything in it!!!
Colorants:
We use only FD&C Colorants, Natural Pigments and herbs for color in our soapmaking process. We do NOT use ordinary food coloring or dye in our soaps as they may stain you, your tub or your linens. Some soapers do use regular old food coloring or fabric dyes in their soaps however they really are not the best choice. When shopping around, always ask what type of colorants are used!
Babies have very tender skin. It is not recommended to use soaps with added colors on infants and children under the age of two. If you are looking for a soap for a small child, our cold processed soaps would be your best alternative. Should you see a shape in the glycerin soap section, we can make some WITHOUT the colorant to help protect your baby's skin.
Scents:
We use high quality fragrance oils most often in glycerin soaps. Our higher end soaps and body products contain essential oils.
Fragrance oils are, as a general rule, chemical in nature and are combinations of different scents (these are the only "Chemicals" we use in our products). The fragrance is strong when you are in the shower, but fades as you dry leaving your skin with just a slight fragrance - not overpowering!
Essential Oils are distilled botanicals used in bath and body products and aromatherapy. They are 100% all natural. As a result, they can become quite expensive and add a lot to the cost of the soap. Special requests for essential oils are taken. Please contact us for a quote.
